What is Ballroom Genie? Is it an app?

Ballroom Genie is a library of videos and expert advice to help you learn and answer questions when your teacher isn’t around. It’s not an app, but a website that you can use on your PC, Mac, tablet and phone. If you use it on a smaller screen like a smartphone, the layout will adapt to make it easy to use (try it for yourself!).

Which dances and steps are included?

We cover steps in Waltz, Quickstep, Slow Foxtrot, Tango and Viennese Waltz – see a list of the steps included.

We add new material from time to time, and this is currently added to existing members’ subscriptions at no extra cost. This can include videos for new steps, or expert advice to go alongside the videos.

Are you planning to cover Latin American?

We’re starting with the Ballroom dances – in future we’d love to cover Latin too, but it depends on how the service develops and what our users want the most.

Do you cover American style?

At the moment, all our videos are International style.

Can I download and keep the videos?

No — you need to be on our website to watch the videos. We don’t currently offer permanent downloads or DVDs.

Who runs Ballroom Genie?

We are Chris and Joanne, ballroom dancers and web developers from Cambridge, UK. Read the Ballroom Genie story on the about us page.

How much does it cost?

A subscription to Ballroom Genie costs US$10.99 per month (in United States). You can find out more about what that includes on our pricing page.

Is the subscription an annual contract?

No, it renews monthly with no long-term lock-in, and if you sign up on our standard monthly plan you’re protected by our Safe Subscription Guarantee. See our pricing page for details.

Which payment methods do you accept?

If you’d like to pay by credit card, we accept Visa, Mastercard and American Express. If you have a UK bank account, you can also choose to set up a Direct Debit.

For your security and peace of mind, we use specialist payment services to process all transactions, and they use bank-level security to collect and store your data. Direct Debit payments are also protected by the Direct Debit Guarantee.

How would I cancel my subscription?

You’d log in, click on ‘My account’‘Account’ in the menu at the top of any page, and click on the ‘End subscription’ button and confirm. This stops any further payments being taken (unless your renewal has already started), and you’d still have the remaining time you’ve paid for.

Please note that e-mailing us to say you’d like to cancel is not sufficient – for security reasons we’ll ask you to go through this simple process yourself.

Which browsers or systems are supported?

You can find a list of browsers and operating systems that we support on our video support page. If in doubt, please visit our demo page on your device to check that the videos are working for you.

How many devices can I use it on?

Once you’ve set up your subscription you can use it on as many devices as you have, e.g., your laptop at home, your tablet or phone in a practice etc. They must be your own devices though, as you can’t share a subscription with someone else.

How can I change my payment details?

The best way to do this is to cancel your current subscription and create a new one using the new details. Any time you've already paid for on the old subscription will still run as usual, and then the new subscription with the updated details will start automatically on your next renewal date.

To cancel, please follow these instructions. Once you’ve done that, you’ll see another button in roughly the same place on your account page to start a new subscription, and that will ask you for the new details you would like to use, just like when you first joined.

Should the step videos have sound?

No, the step videos really are silent. We show the timing visually at the bottom of each video instead, because that way you can still see how the timing works if you're in a noisy venue or if you're watching in slow motion.

Have you tried it for yourself?

Ballroom Genie can help you understand better and improve faster. Try the demo to see how it works for one step.
