They say timing is everything…

From your feedback so far, the most popular request was a way of showing timing in the videos. We like a challenge, so we decided to add this in time for launch (which will be soon!) and give you a sneak preview now.

What do you think of this approach? Leave a comment on our Facebook page, or send an e-mail to tell us!

If you can’t see the video, you may need to update your browser to use the site. Visit our video support page to find out how.

Most teaching videos use sound, with someone counting the beats, but we decided to do it visually in order to:

  • show detailed timing in the slow motion videos
  • make it clear when the man and the lady have different rhythms
  • make the videos easier to use in noisy practice sessions.
    • (Also, our computer models can’t speak…)

Ballroom Genie is designed to show how professionals really dance, without simplification. Our timing graphics ‘pulse’ based on the music that was playing when the clips were recorded, so they not only show the timing for the step, but fade out over the course of each beat. That means that you can see in detail when each action happens relative to the beat, particularly in slow motion.

Welcome to the new Ballroom Genie blog!

We’ve been a bit quiet recently, but that’s because there’s been lots of work going on behind the scenes! We’re planning to launch Ballroom Genie soon, starting with videos of some popular syllabus and competitive figures in Waltz and Quickstep. These will be available for a low monthly subscription fee. You can get a sneak preview of some of these videos by joining our mailing list, and that way, you’ll also be among the first to know when we launch :-)

If you take a look around the site, you’ll also see that we’ve redesigned our homepage, which is now complete with new videos illustrating some of Ballroom Genie’s features. You can see examples of the slow motion, top-down and ‘ghost partner’ views, which we hope will show the kinds of new perspectives it can give you. The test page, where you can see how Ballroom Genie will work, is still available too.

The eagle-eyed amongst you will also notice that the blog has changed – we’ve moved it over to our own system to give ourselves more flexibility. If you’d like to leave a comment, you can contact us by e-mail at hello@ballroomgenie.com, or talk to us on our Facebook or Twitter pages. We’d love to hear from you!
